Crawly Crypt Vol 2: Atari ST Archivers

4PAK "4 PAK" - the TOS/PRG file compactor. This program packer is similar in function to other popular packers like the Atomic packer, etc. Using 4 PAK, you can expect to pack files by around 60% with 4PAK. It is also frighteningly fast at unpacking. Please note, 4PAK will not compress all PRG/TOS files. If there are problems with the GEM header, 4PAK will not compress the file.
A2LSWTC2 A2LSWTCH.PRG (ARC.TTP to LHARC.TTP Switcher!) by Jan Dembowski. This program allows people who use LHARC and ARC to switch back and forth between the two compression methods with the least amount of effort. You can now convert all your *.ARC files to *.LZH oor vice-versa!
ARC2LZH3 ARC <-> LZH version 3.0 by Wayne Watson. The author wanted to automate the process of converting ARC files to the LZH format. So he created this little shell program. This utility makes converting your ARCs to LZH format a snap! FREEWARE!
ARCGSH41 Archiver GEM Shell version 4.1 by Rainer Klute. Arcgsh is a GEM shell that eases the use of the most popular archiving programs for the Atari ST (arc, lharc, shar, tar, and zoo). Furthermore the programs compress, uud, and uue are supported. You can use your favorite file viewer and your favorite editor from Arcgsh without any need to leave the program. Docs provided in both English and German in Tex format.
ARCLIST2 ARCLIST version 0.9 by Kevin Whitham will search downward from either the current drive/path looking for ARCed files. All files found will have their contents written out to a file named "ARC_DATA.TXT". ARC.TPP must be in the same directory for this program to work.
ARCLZH63 Archiv-Lister ST version 6.3 by Stephan Slabihoud - the archive lister and unpacker utility for all Atari users. Supports the following formats: ARC, ARJ, LZH, LZS, MOD, TRE, ZIP, ZOO. This program is SHAREWARE. All docs are in German.
ARCSHL30 ARC Shell version 3.0 by Charles F. Johnson is a GEM program which is designed to work with the popular ST archiving utilities ARC and LHARC (LZH). Essentially, ARC Shell adds a GEM interface to the archiver programs, letting you point and click to select the various options instead of typing a command line. ARC Shell also contains a complete GEM-based disk utilities package, that lets you copy files (with wildcards and with query), delete and rename files, create and delete folders, show the free space on any connected drive, and even run other programs...all without exiting to the desktop.
ARJ_995 (UN)ARJ version 9.95, rev. 3.004 by the TOS crew. Claims to be 100% compatible with R.Jung's ARJ.EXE for IBM. Special features: MODE 1 PACKING, password protection, multiple volumes, diskette user support, extra verbose, on-line manual, extended repair options, complete output redirection, fast - at least triple compared to any other implementation!
ATOM36 Atomik Cruncher version 3.6 by Altair. This utility will compress both program and data files. Once compressed, the programs will still be executable. When run they will unpack and load automatically. This version of Atomik is compatible with Warp 9 and includes an option to unpack files.
AUTO_501 Automation Packer version 5.0.1 by EGB. This version of the Automation packer was written because the ICE packer from AXE was faster than the previous Automation release. This new version of Automation also includes some source code that will demonstrate how some of this stuff works.
BELEF Belef II (pronounced: BELL*EFF) version 2.02 - Uncle Carl's Famous Archive Shell & Converter by Carl J. Hafner. Belef can best be described as a universal compression utility shell. It is universal in the sense that it should work with ANY compression utility, past, present or future! ALL of the functions associated with your favorite parameter taking compression utility are available, as well as the ability to convert one form of archival storage file into another with a minimum of effort! Belef works on all ST/STe/TT computers in medium and high resolutions.
BOOZGEM3 Booz version 2.1.3 for GEM was written by Michael Alan Dorman and was based on the original Booz code by Rahul Dhesi. It is designed to be a basic, memory-efficient extractor for Zoo files. It's designed to be run from the command line, and has a minimum of options--just l, t, and x, to list, test, and extract files, respectively. It currently has some limitations. However it *does* handle the high- compression Zoo 2.1 files.
BRIKBIN Brik by Rahul Dhesi generates and verifies 32-bit CRC values (checksums). It is designed to generate CRCs for text files that are the same on all computer systems that use the ASCII character set, provided each text file is in the usual text file format for each system. Brik will also optionally use binary CRCs calculated using every byte in a file. Such binary CRCs are portable across systems for binary files that are moved from system to system without any newline conversion. Brik can be asked to decide by examining each file whether to calculate a text mode or binary mode CRC for it.
CDC_220 The Chaos Disk Compactor version 2.20 by Miles Vignol is a program that will turn whole disks into files. Why? Well, some uses could be to backup entire disks to your Hard Drive, send an entire disk over a modem, etc. If the ST can read the disk, CDC should be able to compress it. CDC has been designed to work in any resolution, and on any ST computer.
COMPRESS Compress is an adaptive Lempel-Zev compression program that was ported to the Atari platform from the world of Unix. This version has a default value of 13 bits as the size of the encoding. This can be changed to 12 by using the -b12 option (see docs).
DARC DARC version 1.1 by Gunnar Teege is a utility for archiving whole folder trees from the TOS file system into a single file preserving the tree structure. The contents of the tree is compressed, so that the archive will need only about 50 to 70 % of the space the tree needed. The compression and collecting of many files into a single one is done by the already existing utility ARC. THE ARC PROGRAM IS NEEDED TO RUN DARC! DARC is only a frame program that runs through the tree collecting everything it finds and feeding it into the ARC program.
DECOMPRE DeCompress version 3 by J. Wesolowski is a GEM based utility that will allow you to quickly extract files from ARC or LZH archives. If you wish, DeCompress will also delete the original archives once the files are extracted.
ESSCD63 ESS-Code version 6.30 by Michel Forget was designed to allow computer users to exchange binary files over computer networks that do not support the transmission of binary data. ESS-Code is 100% GEM driven and fully supports the most popular methods of conversion; UUEncoding/UUDecoding, MIME Encoding/ MIME Decoding, BTOA Encoding/ BTOA Decoding, and SHIP Encoding/ SHIP Decoding. If you get files from Internet then you will most likely *N*E*E*D* this program. Shareware!
EXPAND15 Expand-o-matic version 1.5 by Andrew Cullum is a shell for dealing with a variety of compressed formats. It is automatic in the sense that when you choose an archive to extract, it examines the filename extension and determines which archiver to use. It makes unarchiving a group of files go MUCH more smoothly and much quicker. Shareware!
EZSQUEEZ EZ Squeeze version 1.0 by John Brocha is an old archiver. It is slow and inefficient by today's standards BUT it can be EXTREMELY useful if you come across a file that you want to extract that was originally archived with EZ Squeeze. It doesn't seem to work on the Falcon and contains no documentation.
FLXAR31A FLEXI-ARC version 3.1a by William Wong is an amazing shell for all past, present and future archivers. Everytime a new archiver (or a new version of an existing archiver) appears, many ST owners wait until their favorite archiver shell program supports the new archiver. Flexi-Arc can use ANY new archiver from the first day of it's release. It is adaptable to ANY archiver.
GTARBIN GNU Tar version 1.10 Ported to the Atari ST with MiNT (and without) by Alan Hourihane. It is a full fledged TAR that can handle compressed archives rather than uncompressing and then untaring seperately. Included in the binaries part of the this port is Alan's compiled version of compress v4.0. MiNT is suggested because it provides all the facilities neccessary to use this program successfully. Supporting pipes are essential for the compress/ uncompress function of GNU Tar to work, otherwise all the other functions should work under standard TOS.
GZIP06ST GNU ZIP version 0.6 byDaniel Eriksson. This is an experimental port of GNU ZIP for the Atari. There are two different versions, one for the normal TOS filesystem and one for MinixFS (or similar). The TOS version hasn't been tested very much, but it should at least give people without MinixFS a chance to test GZIP out. This version of GZIP was compiled with GCC v2.3.1 PL1 and MiNTlibs PL25. For information on the different compile-options used please see the included Makefile.st file.
HPACK HPACK multi system archiver ported to the Atari ST by Martin Braschler from the original code by Peter Gutmann. This version is complete, just about each and every feature should work. HPACK is available for virtually every system of some importance, and all versions are REALLY compatible. HPACK uses powerful unix-style wildcard matching, allows large archives to be split over several disks, uses powerful public-key encryption ("military grade"), and allows archives to be secured with a "fingerprint" that ensures that an archive is not tampered with.
ICE_2_40 Pack-Ice version 2.40 by Axe of Superior is a program packer. Programs packed with the ICE Packer will automatically unpack and execute when run from the desktop. Ice Pack is now compatible with more programs. Try the programs that never worked when they were packed with any packer. They might work now. (No promises made...)
IMPLODER This little hack is an extremely quick port (by Torbjorn 'Hackbear/ Digital Chaos' Ose) of the Amiga file packer "File Imploder". It is a program packer similar in function to Atomic or the ICE Packer. It is very simple to use - install it as a .ttp taking full-pathname. Then simply drag any file onto the imploder.ttp icon.
LAZA LAZAZ! version 2.00 by Andreas Papula is a very slick and easy to use GEM shell for LHarc, ARC, ZOO, ARJ & ZIP. The program and docs are in German but the program is very easy to use. Shareware!
LPAK LPAK version 0.5(beta) by Andrew D. Webber is a little utility that allows you to compress data files and will then decompress these files without user intervention whenever they are used. The user compresses selected files using the supplied packer (LZSS.PRG) and accesses them as normal when LPAK is installed and active. At present LPAK only works on data files - i.e. don't use it on program files (use a program packer on those instead).
MDP_212 Mega Depack release 2.12 - Coded by Mike Watson in 100% 68000 assembler ("who needs compilers to do GEM based programs?"). Mega Depack will run as either a desk accessory or as a program. This utility will "unpack" files that were packed with most of the popular program packers (such as ICE or Atomic). 53 different packers and a total of 89 different file formats are supported.
MPACK13B Mpack version 1.3 by Hans Streibel. This is a port of the mpack/ munpack programs. mpack/munpack encodes/decodes MIME messages. munpack is also able to decode uuencoded files. This port runs ONLY under MiNT on the Atari. The port consists in essence of the unix version of mpack/munpack - thus, in theory, it should be possible to send mail from mpack. However this has not been tested.
MSA_2_3 Magic Shadow Archiver version 2.3 allows you to create an image of a floppy disk as a file on a hard drive - which can be restored to another floppy later on. Version 2.3 adds the following new features: Runs in all resolutions under all TOS versions (even MultiTOS), works on the Falcon030, can be run as a PRG or as an ACC! *NOTE: Provided for use with the *MANY* demos contained on this CD.
NAUGHTY The Naughty Unpacker version 1.3 by Marinos Yannikos is a tiny little program that will unpack almost all packed executable programs. If you try it on a program which isn't packed, in most cases it will tell you, even though it does not really check for specific unpacking routines.
NCMP424 This is an ST Port of Peter Jannesen's (N)compress version 4.2 patchlevel 4. (N)compress is an improved version of compress 4.1. Compress is a fast, simple LZW file compressor. Compress does not have the highest compression rate, but it is one of the fastest programs to compress data. Compress is the defacto standard in the UNIX community for compressing files. Includes source code diffs.
PACSH258 PacShell version 2.58 by Holger Weets is a GEM shell for various archiver programs including: Zip, Zoo, Lzh, Arc, (UN)Arj, Tar. Contains only German documentation, but the program has 100% English text/menus. This version features a bugfix concerning the use of ZIP. Shareware!
PFXPAK32 PFXPAK Programm-Packer version 3.2 by Thomas Quester is a nice utility that will take an executable program and apply LZH compression to it BUT the packed program will STILL BE EXECUTABLE. Similar to DC Squish but with MUCH BETTER COMPRESSION! All docs are in German. The program is completely GEM based and easy to use.
POWDEPAK PowerPacker version 2.0 DataDePacker by bITmASTER of TCE is a small utility that will unpack files that were packed with the PowerPacker from the Amiga. If you come across a PowerPacked data file you can now unpack it and examine it. All documentation is in German.
RD_DEMO RD - Resident De/Compressor (Demo) by Si. RD is a file compressor and decompressor that works automatically with minimal intervention from the user. Compressed files are read as if they were the original raw file. This includes the ability to randomly access any information in the raw file. New files are compressed when they are created. Compressed files that are opened, then altered before being closed are recompressed.
SCRUNCH2 ST-Cruncher version 2.0 by "The X-King Arthur". A GEM based cruncher program from Europe.
SPLITTER Splitter version 2.0 by S.Coates & M.J.Matts was written after a request from Alan Woodcock (Desktop Services) who wanted to be able to ship a 1 meg+ scanned image file to another machine via floppy disks, obviously the size of the file presented a major problem, especially if it had already been packed with LZH, ZIP or another archiver. Splitter allows you to overcome this barrier by breaking the large file into smaller blocks, and then rebuilding it to it's original form. Shareware.
STZIP26 ST ZIP version 2.6 by Vincent Pomey is an archiver that is 100% compatible with PKZip 2.04 on the IBM PC, and the Unix Info-Zip programs Zip 1.9/Unzip 5.0. It features a full GEM interface. Postcardware! (EVERYONE should register this one) *NOTE: Provided for use with the ZIPed files contained on this CD.
TAR_1112 This is a port of GNU tar 1.11.2 for MiNT and minix file-systems. The program has been compiled using gcc 2.4.5 and the mintlibs pl34. Stacksize has been set to 16 Kb; it may need to be increased. Main changes since the previous version are: Support for "gzip" instead of "compress", no more complaints about failed changes to access times for directories. Ported by Hildo Biersma.
TWOINONE Two-in-One version 1.20 by Gregor Duchalski is an archive shell and manager for the Atari ST/STe/TT/Falcon that supports ARC, ARJ, LZH, ZIP, and ZOO. Includes a text viewer module. Can be used as a GEM application or called from a CLI. The program and docs are in German.
UNARJSHL UnARJ Shell version 0.2. by R. J. Darling is a simple shell program to make the use of UnARJ very simple. A lot of people prefer to use a shell than to mess around with command line parameters. This shell is designed for use with UnARJ v2.21 by Jiri Lamac. It will not work with any other versions of UnARJ as far as I am aware.
UNLZH172 UNLZH version 1.72 by John Harris is a program for extracting .LZH archive files. UNLZH combines an easy to use, GEM based interface with high speed extraction routines, to give you a much simpler and much faster way to extract LZH archives. It is a self contained program - you do not need to have LHARC or any 'shell'. It is written in 100% Assembly language and extracts approximately four times faster than LHARC. UNLZH can search past damaged sections of an archive, and should be able to extract the rest of the files.
UNZIP51B The Info-ZIP group's portable UnZip zipfile-extraction program version 5.1 beta (and related utilities). UnZip is an extraction utility for archives compressed in .zip format (also called "zipfiles"). Although highly compatible with PKWARE's PKZIP and PKUNZIP utilities for MS-DOS (in addition to Info-ZIP's own Zip program), the primary objective of this program are portability and non-MSDOS functionality.
UUX789 This is uud.ttp version 3.3 and uue.ttp version 3.1 as compiled (ported) on the ST by Steve Yelvington. The programs are full implementations of UUencode and UUdecode. They are named uud and uue instead of uudecode and uuencode to avoid confusion between different implementations of the programs.
